BioSense 2.0 Governance: Surveying Users and Stakeholders for Continued Development

Abstract

To set appropriate priorities in the development of BioSense 2.0, its governance body understand the needs and requests of users and stakeholders. The Governance Group has surveyed this community several times, refining its methods along they way. There is now a clearer understanding of the appropriate priorities for developing BioSense 2.0.

Joe Gibson, Marion County Public Health Department, Indianapolis, IN, United States

P. Joseph Gibson is the Director of Epidemiology at the Marion County Public Health Department, serving Indianapolis, Indiana. He chairs NACCHO's informatics workgroup and the BioSense 2.0 governance group, where he represents ISDS. He also works with the Regenstrief Institute to create public health informatics tools that leverage the Indiana Health Information Exchange.

Bryant Thomas Karras, Washington State Department of Health, Shoreline, WA, United States

Bryant Thomas Karras MD is the Chief Public Health Informatics Officer, Meaningful Use Coordinator, and a senior epidemiologist in the Washington State Department of Health. He joined the agency from the University of Washington in 2008 where he had been faculty for 8 years. He is a Physician, an Engineer and Public Health Informatician. He is a member of the BioSense2.0 Governance Group, and the ASTHO eHealth Committee.

Gideon S. Gordon, eHealth, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, Arlington, VA, United States

Gideon Scott Gordon PhD is a Director of informatics at ASTHO with a focus is on informatics policy. Among other areas of public health informatics, Scott works with the CDC's BioSense 2.0 Program and the BioSense 2.0 Governance Group to facilitate their work in establishing priorities for the BioSense program. He has a background in public health informatics, emergency preparedness, as well as a research background in molecular microbiology.
